what did i learn today #10 (excelsia edition)

before i begin, i would like to say wow, this is my 10th post already. i don't expect to keep this blog active for longer since no one's really reading these posts, but hey, if you're reading this, I would like to thank you for your support.

anyways, for this week, we have the opportunity to meet a representative from Excelsia College. Excelsia College is a college that is located in the heart of Sydney and was founded in 1983, relatively new. despite its christian name, don't worry, people from all religions are able to enroll in the college.

this college has 6 departments, which are business, performing art, counseling, education, social work, and ELICOS, which is an english proficiency course. although this college primarily focuses on the business and the performing arts department, this college only wants to focus on developing the life skills of its students. in order to enter, there are only 2 things in mind: completing year 12 and having an IELTS score of 6.0 (with every band no less than 6.0). not only that, but their tuition fees are relatively cheap compared to other universities and you are able to work part-time.

very tempting, i know.

what did i learn today #9 (xjtlu edition)

after what happened last time with the ZJSU, we found another university from a recent university expo that seems promising. this time, it is Xi'an Jiaotong University.

Xi'an Jiaotong University is a university that is located in Suzhou, China. this university is one of the C9 (top 9) universities in China. not only in Suzhou, this university also has a campus in Taicang, China. however, what's unique about this university is its partnership with Liverpool University, hence explaining the letter L in the abbreviation. this partnership allows students to transfer to Liverpool University in a 2+2 program (2 years in Xi'an + 2 years in Liverpool). don't worry, you will still get certificates from both universities, which strengthens your resume when you're looking for a job. if you're not looking to transfer to Liverpool, this university also offers a 4-year program in Xi'an.

this university also offers a wide range of majors, such as IT, mathematics, engineering, science, business, multimedia, and law. this university also offers students with in-campus accommodation (only for the first year), a scholarship program, and even a "sibling discount". but, everything comes with a cost. this university's tuition fee is Rp194 million a year, much more expensive than the other one.

this week, we got to meet two representatives from Zhejiang Gongshang University.

Zhejiang Gongshang University is a university that is located in Hangzhou, China. it was established in 1911, making the university one of the oldest universities in china. the university also provides students with in-campus accommodation, Mandarin preparatory classes, and a wide variety of majors. these majors include business, hospitality, engineering, mathematics, IT, and even law. the university also provides different kinds of scholarships, such as a scholarship funded by the government, a general scholarship, and a scholarship for linguistic and cultural programs. their requirements weren't very high too, so i could say i would apply for the scholarship with ease.

what makes this university's offer more tempting is its tuition fee. i expected the tuition fee to be expensive with such a prestigious school. however, much to our surprise, the tuition fee is only Rp36 million a year. sounds too good to be true, right?

indeed, it was. someone looked up the alumnus reviews of this university and we found out that the university wasn't promoting active learning as it promised. it was brought up to Dr. Capri and she wasn't too happy with it. we are going to look for another university next time.

  • arial
  • font size 12

a personal statement must also contain:
  • reasons wanting to study
  • why we are suitable
  • why our current studies are relevant
  • our hobbies and interests
  • our skills and achievements

in today's session, we received a brochure from Woosong University, the university from last week's session. after that, we expressed our concerns regarding our involvement with school activities this quarter, such as pramuka, cca, ssc, and celebratory events (except graduation).

afterward, some of us focused on SNBT (Seleksi Nasional Berdasarkan Tes) registrations, someone else focused on A-Levels, and some others stayed in the room. Dr. Capri shared a document with us where we could put the universities and programs we wanted to go to/take.

in today's session, we get to meet two representatives from Woosong University. before that, let me introduce what Woosong University is.

Woosong University was founded in 1954 in Daejeon, South Korea. this university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, including business administration, data science, management, culinary arts, etc. thanks to the international curriculum it uses, Woosong University has become one of the top universities in South Korea, placing 2nd among 184 domestic universities.

however, the university is looking for international students because South Korea is facing a population crisis, where the population count of the country decreases each year due to the lack of young people wanting to marry and have children, prioritizing their careers before family. therefore, the university is also offering full-ride scholarships for top applicants.

after the presentation, some students asked questions about the university, including a specific degree, athletic scholarships, and quota.

in today's session, we started by reflecting on what we did on our last semester break before graduating. some people spend their holiday alone, others spend their holiday together with their friends by going to the gym, running 8km, and volunteering for church. i fall under one of those people who spend their holiday alone because i have a lot of things to do, especially moving houses.

after hearing everyone's reflections, Dr. Capri enlightened us about education in New Zealand, student life, and the benefits of studying there. She also told us about her amazing children who all went there for their studies and new lives, with the oldest son buying a car at 25. She hoped her sons are able to encourage us to dream high and not hinder our capabilities.
